Carrier plan names and marketing change frequently, but the actual differences between tiers on any major carrier — Verizon included — tend to come down to a consistent, small set of factors once you look past the branding.
Most plans marketed as "unlimited" today do have a soft cap — after a certain amount of high-speed data use in a billing cycle, your speed may be deprioritized during network congestion. Higher-tier plans typically get prioritized ahead of lower-tier plans on the same network, which matters far more in crowded areas (stadiums, city centers during peak hours) than the raw "unlimited" label suggests.
Mobile hotspot data — using your phone's connection to get other devices online — is one of the most commonly capped features even on unlimited plans, and the cap typically increases meaningfully between plan tiers. If you regularly tether a laptop to your phone, this is often the single biggest practical difference between tiers, more than the headline data amount.
Some tiers cap video streaming resolution over mobile data specifically (standard definition versus full HD), which matters if you watch video regularly on your phone away from Wi-Fi.
Higher tiers frequently bundle subscriptions (streaming services, cloud storage, or device protection) that can offset the price difference if you'd subscribe to those services separately anyway — worth calculating against your actual usage rather than treating it as automatically valuable.
Figure out your actual hotspot usage and whether you regularly hit network congestion in your area, since those two factors matter more day-to-day than the marketing tier name. The cheapest plan that doesn't deprioritize you during the hours you actually use your phone heavily is usually the right one, not necessarily the most expensive tier available.
